Elevate-Derm West Conference 2024 Day 4
The final day of the Elevate-Derm West Conference started a Satellite CME session over breakfast with Drs April Armstrong and Andrew Blauvelt, where they presented on All Things Considered in Psoriasis Management. The morning continued with Dr. Jenny Murase discussing the topic of Dermatologic Care for New Mothers. Her insights for the audience covered that breastfed infants showed decreased incidence and severity of some types of allergies and may have decreased risk of asthma as an adult. Next up was Dr. Swanson with pediatric practice pearls. She shared a tip about using polypodium leucotomos for sun-sensitive conditions like polymorphic light eruption, dermatomyositis, and cutaneous lupus. The capsules are large, but can be opened and sprinkled in food or juice for pediatric patients. The attendees welcomed Dr. Jenny Murase to close out the conference with safe treatments for skin diseases in pregnant patients. One of her practical pointers was around the biologic class of medications for psoriasis, having mounting safety data supporting the use of anti-TNF class in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
After sessions ended, attendees bid each other farewell until the next time. The highly educational Elevate-Derm West conference concluded around noon, and attendees made their way home eager to apply their learnings in their clinical practice.
